Bong County Receives ‘New’ Firefighting Vehicle

By Samuel Flomo, Jr.

Bong County has strengthened its capacity to respond to fire emergencies with the commissioning of a brand-new fire truck.

The ceremony followed the growing concerns over fire outbreaks in Gbarnga, and surrounding communities.

The new vehicle is expected to improve the county ability to respond to emergencies, protect lives, and reduce the destruction of property caused by fires.

The event brought together county officials, members of the county Legislative Caucus, Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) officials, local authorities, and residents.

LNFS Director, G. Warsuwah Barvoul, Sr. disclosed how the government secured funding for six new fire trucks, and other vehicles as part of efforts to improve firefighting operations.

Barvoul said, the truck assigned to Bong County is brand new, but it has not previously responded to a fire incident.

The arrival of the vehicle comes after several fire incidents in Gbarnga, including recent outbreaks reported along the broad street, and in the Chief Compound Community.

Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye, welcomed the intervention.

Moye called for continued investment in emergency response services.

He also urged the government to provide similar support to other counties facing challenges in accessing firefighting equipment.

Moye pledged to continue working with relevant stakeholders to advance the ARREST Agenda.

He expressed gratitude for the cooperation received from county authorities, including Gbarnga City Mayor, Gallah Varpilah, during the establishment of the facility.

100 Gallons of Fuel Pledged

To support the truck’s immediate operations, the county Administration pledged 100 gallons of fuel.

The pledge was made through County Administrative Officer, D. Sam Baryougah Elliott, Sr., providing initial operational support for the newly commissioned vehicle.

The Gbarnga fire station was established through efforts led by Moye, with support from Joseph Madiba Ishmael Massaquoi, and Mayor Varpilah.

The administrative building attached to the station was also renovated as part of the initiative.
