Boakai Leads Flag Hoisting At 179th Independence Celebration

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, officially opened the 179th Independence Day celebration with the hoisting of the flag at the Doris Williams Sports Pitch in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa County.
The ceremony marked the formal commencement of activities commemorating the 179th Independence Anniversary.
It brought together government officials, members of the security forces, and citizens in a display of national pride and patriotism.
The event featured the participation of soldiers from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Liberia National Police (LNP), Executive Protection Service (EPS), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), and other security institutions.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Pres. Boakai joined members of the military, and other security agencies in honoring the national flag, which remains a powerful symbol of sovereignty, freedom, peace, and national identity.
The flag-hoisting ceremony also served as an opportunity to pay tribute to the generations of Liberians whose sacrifices, and contributions have helped preserve the independence and democratic journey.
The annual tradition is considered one of the most significant Independence Day observances, symbolizing the resilience of the Liberian people, and their collective commitment to protect the ideals upon which the nation was founded.
The ceremony in Buchanan comes as citizens across here, and in the diaspora mark the 179th anniversary of the independence as Africa’s oldest republic.
The participation of the security institutions further underscored the importance of national unity, and collective responsibility in safeguarding peace, sovereignty, and democratic gains.
Pres. Boakai’s leadership of the ceremony reaffirmed the central role of the national flag in uniting Liberians across political, ethnic, religious, and regional lines.
