President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has held diplomatic engagements in the United States with U.S. Congressman, Gregory W. Meeks.
The meeting aims to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Liberia, and the United States.
It was held in Washington D.C.
It also brought together Pres. Boakai and Congressman Meeks, who represents New York’s Fifth Congressional District, and serves as a ranking member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The engagement formed part of Boakai’s diplomatic mission to deepen Liberia’s international partnerships while seeking greater opportunities for trade, investment, and development cooperation with the United States.
During the discussions, Pres. Boakai highlighted his administration’s priorities, including democratic governance, peace and security, economic transformation, energy development, infrastructure, and the creation of greater opportunities for Liberians.
He emphasized the need for the country’s sustained peace, and political stability to translate into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens through job creation, stronger public institutions, increased investment, and sustainable economic growth.
Pres. Boakai also discussed Liberia’s role as a member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term. He stressed the importance of continued cooperation with the United States on regional peace, international security, and multilateral diplomacy.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss areas of practical cooperation, including trade, and investment, energy, infrastructure, security, and institutional development, as Liberia seeks to strengthen its economic and diplomatic ties with Washington.
Meeks, a senior U.S. legislator with extensive experience in foreign affairs, and international engagement, also serves as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, according to the Liberian delegation.
Pres. Boakai was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister and Dean of the Cabinet Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor, Samuel Kofi Woods, Director General of the Cabinet, Nathaniel T. Kwabo, and Executive Assistant to the President, Morie Nemah.
The engagement underscores Liberia’s effort to transform its historic friendship with the United States into a development partnership focused on economic opportunities.
Security, infrastructure, and institutional strengthening, with the government saying: “such cooperation should produce meaningful benefits for citizens of both the countries.”
