Boakai Accepts Minister Kamara’s Resignation
President Joseph N. Boakai has accepted the resignation of Finance Minister Boima S. Kamara, Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah has confirmed. Speaking at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing Thursday, July 11, 2024, Minister Piah stated that the President of Liberia and the entire government are grateful to former Minister Kamara for his role playedMinister Piah added that the former Finance and Development Planning Minister is still very useful to Liberia on both national and international fronts. The official mouthpiece of the Government of Liberia disclosed that the former finance Minister will continue to be an asset to the country. He maintained that his former colleague could play some role in the governance process of the country in the future. However, Minister Piah, affirmed that the decision on the part of former Minister Kamara to resign is in the best interest of the country, citing, “We want to ensure that the government’s operation continues and that the Ministry of Finance itself needs to remain operational and very effective”. Meanwhile, Minister Piah revealed that President Joseph N. Boakai has asked the Deputy Minister of Fiscal Affairs, Anthony G. Myers, to act as Minister of Finance until further notice. He emphasized that Mr. Myers will act as Minister of Finance until President Boakai decides on who the next Minister of Finance of the country will be.
