‘Blind’ Father Appeals For Children Support

A visually impaired father of four, Edwin Sallay, has launched a (n SOS) appeal to individuals, philanthropists, humanitarian organizations, and any well-meaning individual to support his children achieve their desire education.

Sallay asked for assistance as he struggles to provide for his family through a small gasoline-selling business.

He resides in Gbarnga, Bong County.

Sallay said, his difficulties began more than a decade ago when he was diagnosed with glaucoma in 2012.

The condition, he said, progressively affected his eyesight, resulting in the complete loss of his sight one year later.

Glaucoma is an ailing eye condition that can damage the optic nerve, and when not properly treated, can result in permanent vision loss.

Since losing his sight, Sallay said, he has faced challenges to provide basic necessities for himself, and his four children, particularly their educational needs.

Despite his visual impairment, he has continued working to support his family. Sallay currently survives by selling gasoline in five-gallon quantities, a small-scale business he said, provides his primary source of income.

He explained how the limited nature of the business makes it difficult for him to meet the needs of his children, including keeping them in school.

Sallay also recounted the personal difficulties he experienced following the loss of his sight, saying: “My partner eventually abandoned me, because of my disability.”

“When I lost my sight, my woman left me, and said, she could not marry a blind man.”

He said the experience added to the hardship he was already facing as he adjusted to life without sight.

Despite the challenges, Sallay remains determined to provide for his children, and improve their future.
