Sen. Chie Donates L$4.1M To Fishmongers

Grand Kru County Senator, Albert Tugbe Chie, has made cash donation of L$4.1 million to the four fishmonger associations in the county.

Chie’s gesture is aimed at enhancing the economic viability of local fish businesses.

The money, a release from his office said, is an ‘interest-free loan’ to support growth and development in those communities.

The release details that each of the association in the fishing communities will receive L$1,000,000 along with an additional L$100,000 allocated for administrative costs related to loan management.

Those benefited communities included Garraway, Sass-Town, Grandcess and Picnicess

Sen. Chie has meanwhile, urged the fishermen and members of the fish selling association to create comprehensive guidelines to ensure equitable distributions and use of the fund as a revolving loan to benefit women that are predominately engaged in the fish buying and selling.

This initiative, a female fish seller said, “underscores Chie’s dedication to improve the livelihoods of those fish sellers and foster sustainable economic growth and development in the county.”
