To strengthen its diplomatic presence in Europe, the Liberian Government has accredited Ambassador Genevieve A. Kennedy to Ireland.
Amb. Kennedy has meanwhile, presented her Letters of Credence to Irish President, Catherine Connolly.
The credential presentation ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 22, at Árasan Uachtaráin, the official residence of Pres. Connolly.
Amb. Kennedy presented the Letters of Credence on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, formally assuming her diplomatic responsibilities in Ireland.
During the ceremony, Amb. Kennedy conveyed warm greetings, and best wishes from Pres. Boakai to Pres. Connolly.
She expressed hopes for her continued good health, and the prosperity of the people of Ireland.
In her remarks, Amb. Kennedy reflected on Ireland’s longstanding support to Liberia, particularly during the country’s civil conflict.
She praised the significant role played by the Irish government, and people, including the contribution of Irish peacekeepers under the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), whose efforts helped restored peace, and stability.
She also expressed gratitude for the work of Irish Aid, noting its support for Liberia’s post-conflict recovery through investments in agriculture, healthcare, gender equality, and rural development.
Amb. Kennedy described Ireland’s continued partnership as a lasting symbol of the strong friendship between the two nations.
Pres. Connolly accepted the Letters of Credence, and extended her best wishes to Pres. Boakai as he pursues Liberia’s national development agenda.
She reaffirmed Ireland’s commitment to strengthen diplomatic relations, and expand cooperation with Liberia.
Connolly said, Amb. Kennedy’s accreditation represents an important milestone in the enduring friendship between the two countries.
The ceremony also included the presentation of Letters of Credence by the ambassadors of Malaysia, Fiji, and the Dominican Republic, marking a diplomatic engagement hosted by Pres. Connolly.
