Senator Amara Konneh has sharply responded to recent attacks from deputy information minister, Daniel O. Sando.
Konneh urged government officials to focus on their jobs instead of attacking critics.
He made the remarks while defending his criticism of the government’s handling of the drug menace.
“The lazy man blames the sun for the unfinished work,” Konneh proverbially told Sando.
He boasted of being a proud Liberian Muslim, who prays five times a day, fasts, and gives to the poor with respect to Christianity, and regularly takes part in Christian devotions at the Senate.
Konneh rejected suggestions that he needs to be told to pray, saying: “My faith is already an important part of my life.”
He said, his decision to speak out about a cocaine scheme is driven by his love for country, and his desire to see the government fulfill its promise to fight illegal drugs.
“I am doing my job. You do your job, too, so we can make Liberia a drug-free country, and a better country.”
Konneh said, he has a responsibility to speak for people affected by illegal drugs, especially those who may not have a strong public voice.
His response adds to the growing public disagreement between him, and officials of the government, as debate continues over the fight against drugs.
