AIIST Graduates 56 AFL Personnel, Others

Fifty six personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) and various para-military institutions on August 8, 2024, graduated from the Africa International Institute of Science and Technology (AIIST) University College. Deputy Minister for Operations at the Ministry of Defense, Spencer Leeco, delivering the keynote address at the graduation program on behalf of Rtd. Brig. Gen. Geraldine Janet George, Minister of National Defense, said, “As we go about the arduous task of nation building, and the rebuilding of professional military and law enforcement agencies in our country, we must think big and widen our imaginations.  And we must put big dreams and imaginations into action. By doing so, individually and collectively, we will build a country with a respectable security image that our generation and future generations come can be proud of.” The Deputy Defense Minister also encouraged the graduates to expand their education in computer literacy and information technology. He intimated that “In this age of globalization, the important role technology plays in modern security cannot be overemphasized.” Giving an overview remarks of the program, the Vice President for Administration at AIIST University College, K. Ishmael V. Konneh, expressed delight of the program which started with 3 computers and had grown up to University level that graduates over hundred students from different institutions or work places. The Vice President for Administration used the occasion to appeal to security institutions, private organizations, and donor partners to extend helping hands to the institution in the preparation and graduation of quality personnel from the security sector. Representatives from the World Bank, International Development Law Organization (IDLO), European Union, UNDP, UNESCO, and key government officials were among those making remarks.
