Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital To Be Rehabilitated, Expanded
By: Peter Kollie
The Ministry of Health has announced plans for a major rehabilitation and expansion project at Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital in Voinjama City, Lofa County, aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to quality medical services across the county and surrounding communities.
The plans were discussed during an administrative meeting involving the Ministry of Health’s Infrastructure Department, Lofa County Superintendent, J. Lavelah Massaquoi, Lofa County Health Team, and the Administration of Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital.
The proposed project will focus on three major areas of improvement, including the construction of a new Outpatient Department (OPD), comprehensive renovation of the hospital, and expansion of its operating theatre.
The construction of a new OPD is expected to provide a more spacious, organized, and patient-friendly environment for individuals seeking medical attention and outpatient services.
Additionally, the comprehensive renovation will cover the hospital’s existing infrastructure and facilities, with the aim of improving the general working environment for healthcare professionals while ensuring better conditions for patients.
The expansion of the operating theatre is also expected to strengthen the hospital’s surgical capacity, improve working conditions for surgical teams, and enhance its ability to provide essential surgical services to patients.
According to the plans, the project is expected to be completed within five months, marking a significant step toward addressing infrastructure challenges and strengthening healthcare services in Lofa County.
The initiative underscores the Ministry of Health’s continued efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure, strengthen medical institutions, and ensure that residents, particularly those in rural communities, have access to safer, more reliable, and quality healthcare services.
Meanwhile, the Lofa County Health Team, through the Office of the Superintendent and the administration of Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital, has expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of Health Minister Dr. Louis M. Kpoto, for its continued support and commitment to improving the county’s healthcare system.
When completed, the planned improvements are expected to enhance Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital’s capacity to serve as a major referral health facility for Lofa County and neighboring communities.
