As land dispute in Ganta, the commercial hub of Nimba County intensifies, there are reports of huge police presence in the city. The situation is reported mainly at the controversial market in central town.

In the wake of the brouhaha, Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapea Gono, has sternly warned against Illegal Occupation of the disputed land.

Madam Gono’s move is to prevent further escalation of the Ganta market land dispute.

She has meanwhile, warned against the illegal occupation of public land. She announced how the police deployment was meant to deter “unnecessary confrontation.”

In a statement issued on her official Facebook page on Sunday, October 25, Madam Gono said, her office, through Gompa City Mayor, Samuel S. Hardt, had reached out to individuals reportedly seeking to occupy the disputed land, which she described as an “eminent domain” in Ganta.

“Through Mr. Hardt’s office, we have reached out to those hoping to illegally occupy the Eminent Domain.”

Madam Gono further announced that the County Police Commander have deployed officers to prevent “unauthorized entry onto the property.”

Madam Gono’s announcement signals a more direct intervention by the county administration as tensions surrounding the Ganta market land continues to draw attention.

The police deployment is to prevent trespassing, and maintain law and order while the dispute remains unresolved.

Details regarding the individuals involved, the legal ownership, or status of the disputed property, and any prior agreements concerning its use, were not provided in Madam Gono’s statement.

It also remains unclear whether the county administration has initiated formal legal proceedings, or proposed a negotiated settlement to address the underlying impasse to the land.
