The Voinjama District Health Team, under the overall coordination of the Lofa County Health Team, has held a three-day quarterly meeting with Trained Traditional Midwives (TTMs) and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs).

The meeting was hosted in Balakpalasu Town, to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare services.

It took place from October 16–18, with focused on improving coordination, collaboration, and integration between community birth attendants, and formal healthcare providers to promote safe motherhood, and discourage home deliveries.

The engagement highlighted the important role of community birth attendants in supporting maternal and newborn health, particularly in rural communities where access to formal healthcare services remain challenging.

Discussions also emphasized the need for effective referral systems to ensure that pregnant women receive timely medical attention at health facilities; help prevent avoidable complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of community participation, and stronger collaboration between traditional birth attendants, and trained healthcare professionals to eliminate, or reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

The initiative was to improve maternal and neonatal healthcare outcomes by encouraging safer childbirth practices, and strengthen links between communities and formal health services.
