As the issue of curtailing drugs remain the focus of every Liberian, what appears to be a prolonged delay in the ongoing drug investigation by the joint security has once again claimed the attention of a member of the House of Representatives, craving the indulgence of his colleagues to probe into the matter.

On against backdrop, Representative Alexander Pour of River Gee County District #1, on Thursday, October 20, 2026, communicated to plenary craving the indulgence of his colleagues to invite the Minister of Justice, the Police IG, Director of LDEA, among others, to appear and provide detailed information on the ongoing drug investigation.

Rep. Pour in his communication requested that those officials named should appear to provide updates on the following: how many persons have been formally charged and forwarded to court in connection with the investigation?

Who are those individuals still considered persons of interest in the investigation? Or are there other persons of interest who are currently out of the country? And measures are being taken to ensure the appearance before relevant authorities and what progress has been made so far in the investigation? What are the challenges affecting the completion of the investigation?

However, Rep. Pour also said, given the seriousness of drug- related crimes and the devastating impact on the society, particularly the young people, as members of the House of Representatives who are the people’s  deputies, it is prudent that they receive a comprehensive investigation and official update on the status of the investigation.

According to him, the move will enable them to exercise their oversight responsibility, promote transparency, accountability and strengthen public confidence in the justice system of the country.

Meanwhile, following the deliberation, plenary made a decision to create a specialized committee to look into the matter and report to plenary within two weeks.
