President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has with immediate effect, suspended Precellia Cherue, Director General of the Food Authority without pay.

Madam Cherue’s suspension is in response to complaints of “gross administrative malfeasance within the institution.”

An Executive Mansion released on Tuesday, October 13, stated that Madam Cherue will remain suspended until a comprehensive investigation is conducted.

In an effort to maintain continuity in leadership, and daily operations, Pres. Boakai has appointed Georgette N. Gray, the current deputy director general for administration, as acting director general.

The appointment of an acting head aims to prevent disruption to the Authority’s work during this leadership transition.

As the investigation continues, the institution is expected to fulfill its responsibilities in accordance with its legal mandate, and relevant government policies.

The official announcement, however, did not specify any operational changes, or provide a timeline for concluding the investigation.

Boakai reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhance governance, bolster accountability, and uphold due process within public institutions.

He urged government officials to execute their duties with the utmost competence, integrity, and dedication.

The pending investigation, according to the release, will be led by a special panel including the president’s legal advisor.

The panel is tasked with examining the complaints that prompted the presidential action, and determine the relevant facts.

However, the announcement did not disclose the specifics of the misconduct, or identify the individuals, or offices that lodged the complaints.

Madam Cherue’s suspension halts her official responsibilities as the investigation unfolds. While the suspension is immediate, the allegations are still under investigation, and the announcement does not imply that any final determination of wrongdoing has been made.

The findings of the panel will serve as the basis for any further administrative actions deemed necessary.
