Suspended Chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), Dempster Brown, has threatened to file a US$2 million defamation lawsuit against Acting INCHR Chairman, Mohammed Fahnbulleh. Brown made the legal threat recently when he appeared before the Monrovia City Court on allegations of forgery.

He was subsequently released after the Magisterial Court determined it lacked jurisdiction over the case.

Brown accused Fahnbulleh of damaging his character. He claimed that statements attributed to Fahnbulleh in the wake of the allegation contributed to his appearance in court as regards the forgery.

Additionally, Cllr. Brown has refuted claims that he was handcuffed by court officers on Wednesday, October 7.  He labeled the reports as “false.”

At a news conference on Thursday, October 8, at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia, Brown said Fahnbulleh disseminated misleading information about his arrest, which he claimed, has harmed his reputation both domestically and internationally.

He further revealed how he presented evidence indicating that the matter leading to his appearance in the Magisterial Court is currently under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, and so, it cannot be adjudicated by a lower court.
