Grand Kru County Administration has confirmed preparations for road-clearing activities ahead of the dry season.
The pending roadwork is primarily along the Barclayville/Picnicess corridor.
The selection of that stretch of road came as the county intensifies its sporting activities ahead of the 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.
For the purpose, a GVL-owned bulldozer arrived in the area on Wednesday, October 7, to begin clearing the corridor.
The county administrative officer, Alphonso DN Teah, confirmed the development.
Teah told reporters that the administration is working with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the road intervention ahead of the sporting events.
The road-clearing exercise, according to the country development officer, Joe Momo Sekpeh, is undertaken in collaboration with Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL).
The intervention is to improve transportation between Barclayville and Picnicess, particularly as Picnicess prepares to host activities associated with Group ‘D’ of the 2026/2027 National County Sports Meet.
Meanwhile, preparations at the Picnicess sports pitch have also progressed with the inner fence completed, while construction work continues on the dressing, and bathrooms.
Plans are also underway to fence the entire sports field, a measure expected to improve security, and support revenue generation through gate collections during sporting activities.
The road intervention and ongoing rehabilitation of the sports facility form part of preparations to ensure that Picnicess is ready to receive the teams, and spectators.
Residents have welcomed the ongoing developments, with expectations that improved road access could also benefit communities along the Barclayville/Picnicess corridor beyond the sporting event.
