Lofa County District #5 Representative, Augustine B. Chiewolo, has promised to support the United Brothers Farming Union.
The support is part of Chiewolo’s efforts to strengthen agriculture, and improve food production in the district.
He made the commitment over the weekend when he met with members of the farming union during a visit to their farm in Zorzor District.
The United Brothers Farming Union has 40 farmers. It is headed by its leader, K. Levela Woi.
Woi presented several challenges facing the group, including the need for farming tools, and a storage facility.
The farmers have complained of access to agricultural tools, and proper storage that would increase productivity, and reduce post-harvest losses.
In response, Chiewolo recommitted to support the government’s ARREST Agenda, particularly its focus on agriculture.
He also promised to work with the cooperative, and engage relevant government ministries, and development partners to address the farmers’ needs, including access to farming inputs, and storage facilities.
As an immediate gesture of his support, Chiewolo provided US$60 as “food money” for the farmers while they were working on the farm.
He also praised the United Brothers Farming Union for its unity, commitment, and contribution to food production.
