An opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, has launched a sharply worded attack on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration of “poor goverance.”
Koijee, has accused the government of turning the 2023 “Rescue Mission campaign into a risky cocaine mission.”
In a statement titled: “The Mask Is Off,” he argued that the political movement that brought the Unity Party-led government to power was driven less by a genuine national rescue agenda, and more by resentment toward former President George Weah and the CDC.
Koijee invoked the philosophical concept of “resentment,” associated with Friedrich Nietzsche, to describe a political culture in which unresolved grievances, and resentment become the basis for political action.
Koijee: “Former Pres. Weah’s rise from humble beginning to international prominence, and the presidency represented a challenge to the traditional political establishment.”
He said, CDC’s support among ordinary Liberians further intensified opposition from political forces that he claims sought to remove the party from power.
He also revisited several promises, and allegations that featured prominently in the 2023 political debate.
Among them, he cited the controversial issue of salary harmonization, the deaths of three missing boys, allegations surrounding the deaths of government auditors, and campaign promises concerning accountability, integrity and the rule of law.
He questioned the failure of the government to deliver meaningful results on some of the issues that he says, were used to mobilize public opinions against the erstwhile CDC administration.
Koijee further accused the current administration of presiding over “economic difficulties, declining public confidence, allegations of political intimidation, police brutality, and selective justice.”
Though government has not officially reacted to Koijee’s assertion, these claims are political allegations from the CDC official, and should be distinguished from independently established findings.
His strongest criticism centered on the ongoing narcotics investigations.
Authorities have confirmed the seizure of approximately 237.6 kilograms of cocaine at Roberts International Airport in June 2026, valued at more than US$19 million, while a joint national security investigation was launched into the shipment.
The cocaine investigation has since resulted in indictments, including the one from the Montserrado County Grand Jury charging several individuals in connection with allegations involving false cargo declarations, and attempts to facilitate the movement of the seized cocaine.
