The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has confirmed resolving the delays in the payment of civil servants’ salaries.

The Ministry attributed previous payment difficulties to revenue shortfalls that affected government’s ability to meet its monthly payroll obligations.

Finance Minister Augustine Ngafuan made the disclosure during an interview with OK FM over the weekend as concerns over public-sector salary payments, and government financial management continue to attract public attention.

Ngafuan said, since he took over the Ministry in September 2024, government has ensured that civil servants receive their salaries on time, compared with delays experienced under previous administrations.

He said, the earlier salary delays were largely caused by government’s inability to mobilize sufficient domestic revenue within the required period to cover its monthly payroll obligations.

Ngafuan maintained that the Joseph Nyuma Boakai-Koung administration, has now “100 percent” addressed the salary-payment.

He meanwhile, assured civil servants that the government will continue mobilizing lawful domestic revenues to sustain regular salary payments throughout its six-year tenure.

The declaration, however, places greater responsibility on the government to demonstrate that the improvement can be sustained, particularly as civil servants depend on timely salaries to meet household expenses, education costs, transportation needs, and other basic obligations.

Ngafuan’s comment also come amid continued public scrutiny of government revenue collection, expenditure management, and the ability of the administration to meet recurrent expenses while simultaneously financing infrastructure, and other development programs.

Beyond salary payments, Ngafuan highlighted several changes, including greater attention to merit-based considerations, improved sanitation, transportation facilities, staff health services, and other measures to improve employee welfare.

He said, the Ministry has also strengthened its focus on performance, accountability, and transparency among employees, with the changes intended to support the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, and improve institutional efficiency.
