A youth of Grand Kru County, Sylvester H. Karmbor, has publicly credited the Unity Party-led government for “empowering young women, and unemployed youths.”

At ceremony that marked the arrival of Finance and Development Planning Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan to Barclayville, Karmbor singled out the Ministry of Youth and Sports for initiatives that have provided economic opportunities for some young people.

He said, Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah-Togba, has empowered young people, particularly girls engaged in small businesses with finance that strengthened their establishments.

Karmbor also pointed to the recruitment of young people as cadets, saying: “The initiative has created opportunities for youths, who previously had little, or nothing to do.”

“Our youth who have not been doing anything, having the experience, she decided to recruit them as cadets, which Grand Kru County is benefiting from.”

He further credited Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan for the financial backing that, according to him, has enabled young people in Grand Kru to benefit from government initiatives.

However, while acknowledging the government’s interventions, the Karmbor made a direct appeal to Ngafuan for additional support for the county’s Youth Center.

He said, the newly constructed facility remains largely unequipped, and needs immediate attention to become a functional space.

In response, Ngafuan assured the youth of government’s commitment to ensure the Youth Center receives the necessary materials, and support to make the facility fully functional.

The assurance provides a direct response to concerns raised by the youth, and signals government’s intention to ensure that the investment goes beyond the construction of the building to providing the resources required for young people to effectively use the facility.
