Construction of the perimeter fence for the proposed Grand Kru prison has reached 80 percent completion, according to the supervising contractor overseeing the project.

Robert Kerloh, Supervisor of Kingdom Business Incorporated (KBI), made the disclosure during a recent inspection of the construction site.

“The project is progressing steadily and remains on course for completion.”

Kingdom Business Incorporated, a Monrovia-based construction company, was contracted to build the prison fence, which is a key component of the planned correctional facility for the county.

The project represents a major milestone for the county, which has remained without a prison since its establishment in 1984.

The absence of a correctional facility has long posed challenges for the justice system, with inmates and pretrial detainees often being transferred to prisons in other parts of the country.

County authorities believe completion of the prison project will strengthen the administration of justice, improve detention conditions, and reduce the burden associated with transporting inmates outside the county.

Residents have welcomed the progress. They expressed the hope that the long-awaited prison will soon become operational and address the longstanding infrastructure needs in the justice sector.
