An accident in Gbarken Community, Forpoh District, Grand Kru County, has left residents in shock with news about of the four workers being death.
The situation has reportedly claimed the lives of two men, who fell into a well along with two of their colleagues that were working on a water factory project.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, had left residents in shock as the women endlessly wailed.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at approximately 3: p.m. when workers attempted to remove water from a newly dug well to install concrete pipes as part of the construction process. Residents said, the project is being undertaken by a businessman Daddy, who wants to establish a water production facility in the area.
Eyewitnesses explained that after water unexpectedly filled the well, several workers were instructed to lower a water pump intake tube to drain the water before construction could continue.
During the process, four men reportedly fell in the well under circumstances that are still being investigated. “We heard people shouting for help, and rushed to the scene. The situation was terrible. People did everything possible to rescue those trapped inside the well,” one eyewitness recounted. Another resident recalled how two of the victims were eventually brought on shore alive, while two others remained trapped in the well for several hours before they were rescued.
“It was heartbreaking to watch. Everyone prayed and hoped the other two men would be rescued, but time passed so fast and conditions inside the well appeared very dangerous.”
As of Monday morning, community residents feared that the two men trapped inside may have lost their lives, though authorities were yet to issue an official statement confirming fatalities.
The tragedy has cast a cloud of grief over Gbarken Community, where residents gathered throughout the night awaiting the news of a successful rescue effort.
“We have mourned as a community. They are our brothers; our sons, and our friends. This is a painful moment for all of us,” another resident said.
Local authorities and community leaders are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether proper safety measures were in place during the construction work.
The identities of the victims had not been released at the time of publication late last night.
