Conflicting accounts accompanied by concerns are growing over the disappearance of National Elections Commission (NEC) Magistrate Solomon Jaryenneh.
Jaryenneh had gone missing since April 2, 2026, after he reportedly traveled to Maryland County to attend a workshop.
Prior to his disappearance, Jaryenneh was assigned to Sinoe County.
He reportedly traveled to Harper for a training workshop, but was said to have earlier complained of “health complications.”
He was treated at J.J. Dossen Hospital, doctors reportedly advised him to return for follow-up care, according to family accounts.
His wife, Hawa Jaryenneh, said, in an interview that her husband later attended another NEC-related training in Nimba County, “but told me he was heading back to Maryland County to continue medical treatment.”
“The last time I spoke with my husband was on April 2. Since then, all his phones have been off, and nobody can clearly explain his whereabout.”
Before his communication stopped, Solomon reportedly told his wife he was lodging in Harper at an apartment arranged by Maryland County NEC Assistant Magistrate Thomas Wilson.
Wilson confirmed to the family that Jaryenneh stayed at one of his apartments, but later spoke about plans to travel privately to Ivory Coast for advanced treatment before contact was lost.
Desperate for answers, Mrs. Jaryenneh said, she traveled across checkpoints from Liberia to San Pedro, Ivory Coast, “in search of my husband, but I found no trace. Sometimes his internet comes on briefly, and when people call, the phone rings for a short time before going off again. This is painful and confusing.”
The disappearance has sparked fear among residents in the entire Southeast.
Meanwhile, locals urged state security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into Jaryenneh’s sudden disappearance.
Community members say, the incident raises security concerns for government workers and public servants assigned in the region.
As of press time late last night, NEC has not issued an official statement on the incident.
