Agents from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) assigned at the Bo-Waterside Port of Entry in Grand Cape Mount County, on Tuesday, July21, arrested two Guinean nations.
The Guineans were arrested with 200 strips of Tapentadol/Tramadol.
Tramadol is a synthetic opioid painkiller prescribed to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. It works through a dual mechanism: binding to opioid receptors in the brain to change pain perception, and boosting the brain’s serotonin and noradrenaline levels.
The suspects had the illicit substances concealed in their vehicle.
According to the LDEA report, agents made the arrest at approximately 2:15 p.m. during a routine search.
Agent Kalimon M. Keita led the operation.
The suspects were identified as Yusuf Kamara, 29, of the Soso tribe, and Sekou Talewaly, 21, of the Mandingo tribe.
Both suspects are residents of Conakry, Guinea.
Officers said, the drugs were found hidden in a black plastic bag among goods in a silver-colored Opel Zafira with Guinean registration number BJ-6931.
Authorities estimated the street value of the seized substance at L$500,000, or approximately US$2,777,77.
The LDEA Grand Cape Mount County Detachment confirmed how the suspects were arrested, while the exhibits have since been turned over to the investigation section for further probe ahead of court proceedings.
The arrest comes as the LDEA reportedly intensifies border monitoring and enforcement activities.
