Authorities at Behwan Police Station in Grand Kru County, have launched an investigation into allegation of a statutory rape involving a 10-year-old girl. The victim (name withheld), is for this purpose, referred to as “Iron Lady.”
Police said report of the incident came to light on Friday, December 5, around 12:20 p.m., when the station received information concerning the rape.
The survival resides in Behwan City with her parents.
The accused, Fredrick Weah, aged 18, and also of the Grebo tribe, is reported to be a resident of the same neighborhood, known locally as “Sharpie Kilo.”
Weah is alleged to have committed the act, while the girl mother, Felecia, was away from home.
Following the tip-off, Trehn District Police Commander, summoned the victim’s parents for verification.
The mother had expressed concerns about her daughter’s recent deteriorating health, and unusual behavior prior to seeking medical assistance at Behwan Health Center.
Medical evaluation forced the survival to disclose that Weah had forcibly engaged her into sexual intercourse, but threatened her against reporting the incident.
Weah was arrested, advised of his rights under the law, and is currently undergoing further police interrogation, though he has denied the allegation.
The victim remains under medical care at Behwan Health Center as investigations continue.
Authorities have meanwhile, assured the residents that they are treating the case with the utmost seriousness, and are committed to due process.
