Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus On Partnersโ€™ US$1M Project

Members of the Women Legislative Caucus of Liberia (WLCL), has expressed profound appreciation to the governments of India, Brazil, South Africa, and to UN Women, for their โ€œinvaluable partnership, and support for the official launch of US$1 million project. The project aims at supporting Women Legislators, promotes women voices in leadership, and gender-responsive governance for sustainable development (2025โ€“2027). In a statement of appreciation following the launch on Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, WLCL Chairperson, Ellen A. Attoh Wreh, hailed the initiative as a โ€œgroundbreaking milestone in strengthening womenโ€™s leadership, advancing gender-responsive governance, and creating sustainable pathways for inclusive development.โ€ The project is funded through the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Fund, and coordinated by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation. ย It will be implemented over the next 18 months by UN Women-Liberia in partnership with the WLCL.

With key focus areas including strengthening the Women Legislative Caucus, advancing gender-responsive legislation and budgeting, and community empowerment through adult literacy, digital and financial skills training, entrepreneurship, and agricultural value chain development.

Additional components will include collaboration with national institutions, such as the National Elections Commission and the Law Reform Commission.

Also, concentrate on the launch of a legislative internship program for young women, and South-South learning exchanges with India, Brazil, and South Africa.

Madam Wreh reaffirmed the Caucus commitment to ensuring the success of the project.

She assured that the project will not only amplify womenโ€™s voices in governance, but also contribute to building a more inclusive, democratic, and prosperous Liberia.
