Weah Takes Political Train To Main Opposition Strong Hold (Lofa County) By: Julius Konton
The Ruling Coalition For Democratic Change will on Monday, September 25, 2023 begin its campaign rally in Lofa County. Judging from past elections results, Lofa County has the numerical advantage over the CDC. Even though, the political variables before and now may not be the same but the ruling establishment sees Lofa as a key point to collect maximum votes in its ambitious political quest to win the elections on first round. Despite the terrible roads across Lofa County, the Ruling CDC is expected to campaign massively across Lofa’s five electoral and impossible Districts to include Salayea and Zorzor, Voinjama and Quarnu-Boni, Kolahun, Foya and Vahun respectively to spread the message of hope that the people can count on for a better Liberia. The CDC led by its Standard Bearer George Weah, Vice Standard Bearer Jewel Howard Taylor who also has a root in Lofa County including the Party’s National Campaign Chairman Lenn Eugene Nagbe and other executives and partisans are heading to Lofa County with some tangibles to point at. The Party can boost of the pavement of roads in Foya, one of the populated districts in the County and a key ally of the Standard Bearer of the opposition Unity Party, Joseph Boakai. Even though, Boakai home time (Wonsonga) is few minutes’ drive away from Foya, he sees central Foya as his political pepper bush but was unable to make some meaningful infrastructure interventions as vice president for the last immediate twelve years unlike the current ruling establishment headed by George Weah who is from, Sass-Town, Grand Kru County and has made some tangibles to include the construction of the hundreds of pro poor housing units, provision of street lights and rehabilitation of roads among others. Weah can also proud himself and his government with the historic construction of the Lofa road corridors. Though the project is still ongoing as more still needs to be done before full completion but the party sees the unprecedented pavement of the road from the border with Bong into the first Town, Beyan Town in Lofa to the first political district of Salayea as a milestone achievement worth mentioning. The Party through one of its strong executives and son of Lofa, Thomas Fallah has a modern vocational training school, a radio station and a modern Town Hallin Foya among others. The CDC flag Bearer and his Crack political team members and political strategists are entering Lofa at a time the ruling government also as part of its desire to continue road construction completed the signing agreement for the road project from Konia to menekoma to the border with neighboring Sierra Leone.
Lofa is the six vote rich County of Liberia according to the National Elections Commission’s final voters registration record with 117, 129 voting population of which 91, 828 are females and 85,301 are males registered voters respectively. A massive number that the ruling party is competing to take a lion share of in front of the political godfather of the County, arguably the face of Lofa County, Joseph Boakai. With fifteen days left for the elections and thirteen days to the end of campaign the CDC and other political parties and candidates are now reaching out to the electorates to share their political manifestos to them in order to get the desire results on October 10, 2023. President Weah as former Peace Ambassador continues to preach the messges of peace and hope for a transformed and developed Liberia. Upon his arrival into the Country From attending the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States of America assured his people that his government will maintain the peace even in the midst of threatening comments from some members of the opposition.
“Dont be afraid, there will be no more war check points, remain calm and peaceful whist carrying out your political duties”, he allay the fears from his people. Meanwhile the rich and green County of Lofa is expected to be all blue during the next few days of the CDC’s Campaign in Lofa County as political slogans, dancing and speeches will characterize the political Rally of the ruling party.
