The arrival of 12 pieces of giant yellow machines in Grand Kru County has sparked mixed reactions among the locals.
To that extent, some residents have used the occasion to send a political message to former President George Weah: “No vacancy for Weah in 2029.” They added: “We want our yellow machines to develop our county.”
Grand Kru, the reported home county of Mr. Weah, is the latest county to receive its share of the government’s yellow machines.
The machines are supervised by the Special Coordinating Committee under the leadership of Brownie J. Samukai.
The government says, more than 250 pieces of equipment are being distributed in all the 15 counties, primarily to construct, and maintain roads, improve road conditions, boost agricultural productivity, and support other development activities.
As the heavy-duty machines arrived in the county, several citizens were seen singing, dancing, and declaring that the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) would not return to power anytime soon, maybe in her dream.
They specifically made mentioned of the kinds of Weah’s picks, among them are US sanctioned officials.
Some residents praised the government for providing the equipment, saying: “The machines will ease the longstanding burden of poor, and inaccessible roads in the county.”
Contrast views
But not everyone shared the same political sentiment. Some Grand Kru citizens made it clear that, regardless of the government’s development initiatives, no number of yellow machines could convince them to vote against George Weah.
