Kwagrue has meanwhile, warned that such behaviors would cause their failure at the ballot box during the next election cycle.
Nimba County District #5 Representative Kortor Kwagrue, also urged officials of the governing Unity Party (UP) to “put their house in order, or else they blame themselves for not sharing with the electorates.”
He warned that perceived political mistakes, and disconnect with citizens could affect the party’s electoral prospects.
Kwagrue made the comment during a live Facebook broadcast when he compared the UP’s current situation to mistakes, he said, contributed to the defeat of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in 2023.
He criticized some unnamed government officials for being “so mean, never sharing” and disconnected from grassroots supporters.
Kwagrue urged UP stalwarts to reconnect with citizens, and politicians, who supported them during the 2023 election.
He also cautioned that government development projects alone may not guarantee electoral support.
He said, citizens want to see direct benefits, and personal impact from their elected leaders not boastful rhetoric.
Kwagrue: “Voters can see all the developments, and vote you out when you have not made a personal impact, or the impacts are poor, and underestimated.”
He further criticized the government handling of contracts, particularly the preference for foreign companies over Liberian-owned construction firms.
He called for more government contracts to be awarded to qualified Liberian businesses, saying: “This will create jobs, and ensure that taxpayers benefit directly from public spending.”
Kwagrue also called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to listen to advice from people around him, and warned that poor counsel, and weak leadership could undermine the President’s legacy ahead of 2029.
He maintained how his criticism is an advice, and urged the administration to address concerns before they become politically damaging.
Kwagre to Boakai: “Your legacy is good. You’re doing well. You need to complete your legacy in 2029.”
