Transport Sector Transformation Promised
As transportation being one of the bedrock to nation building, the Unity Party -led government under President Joseph N Boakai and Jeremiah Koung has decided to install new measure to bring transformation to the transport sector of the country through its technicians and technocrats appointed at the Transport Ministry, in order to put Liberia’s Transport Sector on path with other countries around the world. One of those technocrats is Transport Assistant Minister for Administration and Insurance, James Karpu Momo, who revealed that the Transport Ministry under the Rescue mission has decided to bring transformations to the Transport Sector of the country by installing a new measure through decentralization and digitalization of the entire sector throughout the country, to ensure that the sector is monitored and managed probably for the common good of a country which he said is one of the heart beats of President Boakai. He made the revelation last Thursday in Monrovia, when he was honored by a group under the banner- Citizens United For Better Liberia as outstanding Assistant Minister of the year for his contributions to society. Speaking further, Momo noted that as part of the new measure, the ministry has already started its decentralization process, starting with Voinjama, Lofa County, where the ministry is currently constructing a mini service center to curtail the challenges people face in acquiring documents from the Transport Ministry in Monrovia, stating that there are other service centers to get on the way soon in other parts of the country to provide jobs opportunities for the citizens. He also said his appointment at the Transport Ministry by President Boakai was not a mistake, boosting that his experience in the sector over the years cannot be overemphasized as he will do everything possible to ensure that Liberia gets the best under the Boakai- led Government. He further revealed that his coming to join the Recuse Team was not due to the issue of salary collection but how he can also contribute his quota to the growth and development of the country through the transport sector which according to him, is key. The Assistant Transport Minister also told the gathering that another measure on the way is the digitalization of the sector through a digital, RQ system, which according to him, if put in to place, will help reduce the issue of long traffic across Monrovia especially during inspection, where the system will determine whether or not vehicles are registered. He, at the same time, revealed that the team appointed at the ministry is currently working on lots of transforming methods to ensure that Liberia’s Transport Sector be rated among other nations in the sub region, including the digital RQ System but intoned that it also needs the collective efforts of all Liberians especially the National Legislature that needs to approve it. Moreover the Assistant Transport Minister commanded the group for the recognition, stating that he did not know that his works over the years to the country were being monitored and at the same time promised to continue to work in the interest of the country for the betterment of the people. Also presenting the honor was the chairman of the group, Kesseley Barzeh, who praised the minister for his level of contributions to the growth and development of the country especially the empowerment of young people in and out of government against which backdrop the Citizens United For Better Liberia decided to honor him as the most outstanding Assistant Minister of the year 2025.
