A devastating road accident in Webbo Konowroken, River Gee County, has left one man dead, and two others fighting for their lives at a clinic.
The incident has renewed calls for stricter road safety enforcement in the southeast.
The death of Victor Kopeh,47, has thrown Webbo Konowroken into mourning.
The crash occurred on the evening hour of Friday, July 31, when a motorcycle collided with a taxi along the New Town to Old Town road in Webbo Konowroken.
Health workers pronounced 47-year-old Victor Kopeh dead shortly after the collision.
Kopeh was a passenger on the motorcycle that was involved in the crash.
The cyclist was a 17-year-old Vasco Valentine, who was transporting two passengers: the deceased Victor Kopeh, and one Solo Kopeh.
Residents say, the accident highlights growing dangers on rural roads, especially involving motorcycles carrying multiple passengers and taxis operating at night hours.
Webbo Konowroken is a major commercial hub in electoral District #3.
Located about 55km from the county capital Fish-Town, the town sits near the Maryland County border closed to the Liberia/Côte d’Ivoire border, with an estimated 7,000 plus households.
Local leaders have meanwhile, urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overloading, and exercise caution, especially on poorly lit rural roads.
According to eyewitnesses, the three men were traveling from New Town toward Old Town when their motorcycle was struck by a cream-colored taxi driven by Abel P. George.
The force of the impact threw all three motorcycle occupants to the ground.
Victor Kopeh sustained fatal injuries, while Vasco Valentine, and Solo Kopeh suffered severe injuries.
Community members rushed the two injured to Karloken Health Center for treatment.
Due to the severity of their injuries, medical staff later referred Vasco Valentine, and Solo Kopeh to J.J. Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper, Maryland County for specialized care.
As of this report, both the victims have remained in critical condition.
River Gee County police confirmed they have launched a full investigation into the cause of the crash.
