A prolonged leadership dispute that created tension among residents of Tomgbyah Clan in Bong County has been peacefully resolved.
The end of the dispute came after Bong County authorities intervened, and successfully brokered a peace agreement between community members and the Clan Chief, Madam Esther Y. Keleekai.
The county-led intervention, spearheaded by Bong County Administration Officer, D. Sam Baryougah Elliott, followed the directive the Superintendent Loleyah Hawa Norris issued for local authorities to restore peace, unity, and cooperation within the clan.
The dispute, which lasted for an extended period, was centered on concerns the locals raised, including allegations that the Madam Keleekai was not residing in clan headquarters.
Some residents expressed frustration, and accused the leadership of failing to provide adequate presence, and support at the clan headquarters. Residents said, the situation affected development efforts, and created concerns about the future progress of the community.
The matter was initially presented before the Yellequelleh District Paramount Chief before being forwarded to the District Commissioner for further review.
With the disagreement then continuing, the issue was later referred to the Office of Supt. Norris.
Meanwhile, the county authorities convened a mediation meeting involving key stakeholders, the native superintendent, Yellequelleh District Paramount Chief, District Commissioner, traditional leaders, and representatives from the two sides of the dispute.
During the mediation, Elliott urged Madam Keleekai, and the locals to put aside their differences, and focus on the collective development of Tomgbyah Clan.
He emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect in resolving community disagreements, and encouraged both parties to work together to promote peace, and development.
Meanwhile, an agreement was reached between the two sides, which finally brought an end to the long-standing dispute.
