Supt. Norris Against ‘Foreigners’ Employment’
By Samuel Flomo, Jr.
Bong County Superintendent Hawa Loleyah Norris, has launched a major enforcement drive against the illegal employment of foreign nationals in the county.
Madam Norris has henceforth, directed residents to report foreigners living, or working in their communities to the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) for verification and proper documentation.
She issued the directive during separate engagements with residents in Botota and David Dean Town, where Madam Norris called on the inhabitants to support government in her quest to ensure that all foreign nationals operating in the county comply with immigration law.
Madam Norris has meanwhile, cautioned residents not to allow foreign nationals, particularly Burkinabès, to work on their farms or engage in other economic activities without valid legal authorization.
She encouraged farmers and business owners to prioritize qualified Liberians for employment opportunities, emphasizing the need to create more jobs for citizens while ensuring that foreign workers follow established immigration procedures.
Madam Norris further instructed LIS team assigned in the county to collaborate with local authorities to intensify monitoring efforts and ensure that no foreign nationals are allowed to work in the area until their immigration status and employment documents are properly reviewed.
The measure is part of the county administration’s efforts to strengthen compliance with immigration regulations, and address concerns surrounding undocumented foreign nationals.
Madam Norris urged locals to cooperate with security and immigration authorities by providing accurate information about foreign nationals residing or working in their communities.
The directive has sparked attention among residents and local stakeholders, as authorities move to balance enforcement of immigration law.
