Speaker Koon Assures OACP Delegation – Of Liberia’s Commitment To Financial Obligations

House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has assured a visiting delegation of West African Representatives to the Bureau of the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) that Liberia will fulfill its financial obligations to the organization ahead of the OACPS Assembly scheduled for April this year. Speaker Koon reaffirmed the commitment of the House of Representatives to working with other African parliamentary bodies to address critical issues such as climate change financing, deforestation, and agricultural development on the continent. Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Matthew Sahr Nyuma, head of the West African Representatives, congratulated Speaker Koon on his election as Speaker of the 55th Legislature and expressed empathy over the recent arson attack on the Capitol Building. Nyuma highlighted key issues on the agenda at the OACPS, including: Production, import, and export policies, the financial situation of the Bureau and its impact on Africa-EU relations, Migration and mobility, Education and training opportunities. He also emphasized the importance of proportional representation and parity in the Bureau and called for African countries to form a stronger trade bloc to promote African products on the European market. Additionally, Nyuma proposed an ACP-European Union acquaintance meeting with the House ACP Committee to further discussions on economic and trade partnerships.
