In response to a public service notice issued recently by the Secretary of the National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL), A. F. Reeves, Sir. alleging that Sheikh AbubakarSumaworo has been removed from his religious portfolio as Grand Mufti of Liberia, the Liberia Muslim Union (LMU) has taken serious exception to the NMCL’s statement, terming it as false and misleading. In a release issued over the weekend in Monrovia, the LMU through its Secretary, AyoubaJawaraka and Chairman, Mahmoud Fofana, asserted that Sheikh Sumaworo remains the Grand Mufti of Liberia, and that any information about his removal coming from those who want to cause confession within the Muslim community is untrue.  “We, the Liberia Muslim Union will like to inform the general public that the statement recently released by the NMCL that Sheikh Sumaworo is no longer the Grand Mufti of Liberia, lacks all basic of facts and meant to deceive the public and the outside world,” the release notes. Accordingly, Sheikh Sumaworo is the only Grand Mufti of Liberia who currently enjoyed the trust of the Muslim community, and he is gladly performing his duties assigned to him and recognized by the Union in the country. “The LMU is therefore calling on both local and international organizations as well as persons of interest to continue working with our distinguished Grand Mufti (Sheikh Sumaworo),” the group maintained. The LMU has reiterated that at no time was Sheikh Sumaworo removed from his position as being propagated by the NMCL Secretary, Reeves in the public domain. Meanwhile, the LMU is at the same time extending it’s thanks and appreciation to all of it’s member institutions for the support and cooperation towards the smooth operation of the Union in the country, thus, wishing that Allah continue to bless them as they peacefully spread the true teaching of Islam throughout the country.
