The reported dubious activities edge Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph has claimed the attention of Mr. Wilmot Paye, a prominent son of Nimba County.
Mr. Paye had served as Unity Party Chairman, but has raised concerns regarding commercial ties between Saah Joseph, and ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML).
AML operates in Nimba County at the old LAMCO mining sites situated in Yekepa.
Paye said, such a relationship could pose a potential conflict of interest given the Saah Joseph’s legislative duties vise-a-vise his business deal.
Mr. Paye suspected that Sen. Joseph is providing trucking services to ArcelorMittal through a commercial agreement he orchestrated on his own (behind) his legislative function with the company.
“When you have a senator, who chairs the Investment and Concession Committee in the Senate, and that senator has a company engaged in a contractual commercial agreement with a major firm like ArcelorMittal, what do you think it is?”
Paye remarked also characterized the Saah Joseph dubious arrangement with AML as a ‘possible violation, and conflict of interest.’
These allegations followed previous investigative reports about Sen. Joseph’s business dealings with ArcelorMittal.
It was reported in February 2025, that buses linked to Joseph had been relocated to Nimba County, and were being rented to ArcelorMittal. Subsequent reports also indicated that Joseph reportedly holds trucking contracts with ArcelorMittal, although attempts to reach him for comment have repeatedly been unsuccessful.
It is based on those allegations that Mr. Paye questioned how a lawmaker like a Saah Joseph with potential commercial interests involving major concessionaires, can effectively oversee those companies in a legislative capacity?
The situation has sparked public discussions regarding ‘conflict of interest,’ legislative oversight, and accountability within the extractive sector.
