The slow-pace of investigation into the reported proliferation of illicit substances, and drug cartel, has claimed the attention of a human rights lawyer.
As such, Counselor Tiawan Saye Gongloe, or TSG, has called for the resignation of Police Inspector General (IG) Gregory Coleman immediately effective.
Gongloe accused the police leadership of failing to take decisive action against individuals connected to a drug cartel operating in the country.
He made the recommendation when he appeared on Prime FM in Monrovia on Wednesday, September 23.
Cllr. Gongloe said, government must adopt a firm position against drug trafficking without “any compromise” in efforts to pull apart drug networks, and hold those responsible accountable.

Gongloe further alleged that Coleman has the full knowledge, familiarity of individuals connected to the drug cartel, but questioned why arrests have not been made if such information is available to the police?
“The police director has shown knowledge that he knows those who are connected to the drug cartel. Gregory Coleman knows the drug cartel. He knows them.”
Gongloe questioned why those connected to the drug network have not been arrested, saying: “Following President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s decision not to remove Coleman from office, the police chief should consider resigning.”
Gongloe: “Coleman’s continued presence in office raises questions about the government’s approach to combat drug trafficking, and whether the police leadership is being given the necessary political backing to act against powerful individuals connected to the cartel? The police director should do well for himself by resigning since the President does not have the political will to dismiss him.”
He suggested that the President’s relationship with Coleman could be influencing the decision to comprise the drug case.
Gongloe also alleged that the police leadership have shielded individuals connected to the drug cartel.
He meanwhile, warned that such allegations, if left unanswered, could further damage public confidence in the police, and government’s anti-drug efforts.
“You are not to shield, there is a cloud hanging over all of them right now.” Gongloe urged authorities to address the concerns publicly, and take concrete action.
The learned lawyer’s allegation places renewed attention on government’s response to drug trafficking, and the accountability of security institutions.
Coleman, and the government, Gongoe said, would need to respond to the accusations for the public to fully assess the claims, and the evidence behind them.
