The issue of education, being key to nation building, is likely to be actualized in Rivercess County, when Steve Tequah, Representative of District Two Thursday submitted to the plenary of the House of Representatives, a proposed Bill seeking the enactment of a community college to be established in Rivercess County. According to him, the aim of the proposed bill is to provide higher education for the people of Rivercess County, especially the youthful generation whom he referred to as future leaders. He added that since the establishment of the county, the issue of higher education has been a serious problem, noting that citizens seeking higher education usually move to other counties, which according to him, has brought nothing to the county but underdevelopment. Rep. Tequah also maintained that the lack of higher education is also impeding the economic growth of the county, noting that the youth who usually leave the county to seek higher education outside the county sometimes leave along with their parents, thus also reducing the county population which he said is not good for the growth and development of the county. Moreover, the Rivercess County District 2 Lawmaker told his colleagues that it is about time that the  county gets a community college and a technical college  to improve the lives of the people, stating that if the bill is passed, the county human resource development will increase.  Explaining further, Rep. Tequah disclosed that if the bill is passed into law; it will provide numerous benefits, including increased access to education, stating that many individuals in the community currently face barriers to higher education due to distance, financial constraints, and limited opportunities. He further indicated that a local community college will make education more accessible, allowing more residents to pursue their academic and career goals, stressing that skill development and workforce readiness among others which the county currently lacks. Rep. Tequah also explained that Rivercess Community College, if established, will offer vocational training and skill development programs tailored to the needs of local industries, adding that it will equip students with the necessary skills to enter the workforce, thereby reducing unemployment rate and fostering economic growth. He revealed that with the community engagement and lifelong learning, Rivercess Community College will serve as a hub for community engagement, offering workshops, seminars, and continuing education programs, among others, which accordingly will promote lifelong learning and personal development among residents of all ages. “Economic Growth: By attracting students from surrounding areas, the Rivercess Community College will stimulate local businesses and create job opportunities, the influx of students and faculty will contribute to the local economy, benefiting restaurants, shops, and service providers. Cultural and Social Development,” he elaborated. However, the Lawmaker said the Rivercess Community College, if passed, will foster a diverse and inclusive environment, promoting cultural exchange and social cohesion. “It will serve as a platform for community events, discussions, and collaborations that enrich our social fabric. Partnerships with Local Industries: Establishing partnerships with local businesses and organizations will ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and aligned with the needs of the job market. This collaboration will enhance in economics growth,” he also noted. He is at the same time calling on his colleagues to see reasons to pass the bill into law and further called on senators from Rivercess County to attach key attention to the bill and avoid politics, stating that the bill submitted is not to score political goal but to buttress the efforts of the citizens for the betterment of the county.
