Rep. Koon In Court Again ..Maybe Detain In ‘Common Jail’ If…

Montserrado County District 11 Representative is again facing another legal battle from his estranged wife for debt recovery.

This time, the county’s Debt Court issued a writ of attachment on the controversial House’s majority Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon.

The court’s action stems from a debt claim his estranged wife, Madam Cecella Kpor Koon, filed at the court through her Attorney-In-Fact, Melvin A. Dunn.

According to court documents, the plaintiff has filed an action for debt recovery, alleging that Koon owes over US$38,500, which includes the principal amount and additional legal costs. The Debt Court is presided over by Judge James E. Jones. Jones ordered that all of Koon’s identifiable assets, including vehicles, equipment and funds (money), be seized to satisfy the debt.

The court further mandates that if Koon cannot produce sufficient assets to cover the claim, he may be detained in Montserrado County’s common jail until a valid bond is secured.

The order specifies that Rep. Koon’s properties must be taken into the custody of the court. The hearing into the matter is meanwhile scheduled for April 8, 2025.

The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of a sitting lawmaker in a personal financial dispute.

According to bystanders, the outcome of the Koon’s case will likely have significant implications both legally and politically, for the controversial legislator.
