The Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) has handed a major leadership responsibility to Super Bongese Director of Programs and Talk Show Host Kongoi Gborkorquellie, appointing him Co-Chairperson of the Association’s Membership Committee.
The appointment, announced in a letter dated August 28, 2026, represents a significant move by RAL to strengthen its membership structure, recruitment efforts and accreditation process across Liberia.
Gborkorquellie’s appointment is in line with Article 15 of the RAL Constitution, which provides for five permanent committees, including the Membership Committee.
As Co-Chairperson, Gborkorquellie will work alongside Committee Chairperson Joshua Freeman to provide leadership and coordinate the committee’s activities in accordance with RAL’s constitutional responsibilities.
His new mandate places him at the center of efforts to expand RAL’s membership while ensuring that applicants meet the standards required by the Association.
According to the appointment letter, Gborkorquellie will assist the committee in receiving and screening membership applications and supporting membership drives whenever necessary.
The committee is also responsible for ensuring that prospective members comply with RAL’s requirements before receiving final accreditation.
One of those requirements is the signing of a behavior bond, designed to reinforce members’ commitment to the standards and responsibilities established under the RAL Constitution.
RAL leadership said Gborkorquellie is expected to work closely with the chairperson, secretary and other committee members to ensure that recruitment, screening and accreditation processes are conducted professionally, transparently and fairly.
The Association expressed confidence that he will bring diligence, professionalism, accountability and integrity to the new assignment.
Gborkorquellie’s appointment also highlights the growing importance of stronger professional structures within Liberia’s media sector, where journalists and broadcasters continue to face demands for responsible reporting, ethical conduct and greater professional accountability.
With his experience in broadcasting, programme management and public communication, his new position gives him an opportunity to contribute to RAL’s institutional development and nationwide membership expansion.
The Membership Committee is expected to play a central role in determining how the Association grows and how prospective members are evaluated before being accredited.
For RAL, the objective is not simply to increase membership numbers but to build an organized and professionally accountable community of reporters committed to the Association’s standards.
