Public Works Minister Summoned At Capitol Building Over Cestos River Construction
The Plenary of the House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Public Works to address the legislative body on action plans for the reconstruction of the completely damaged Cestos River Bridge at ITI, which connects River Cess, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties. According to the House Press and Public Affairs Bureau, the decision was reached during the 6th Day Sitting of the 1st Quarter of the 2nd Session on Thursday, 30 January. The plenary’s decision was triggered by a communication from Sinoe County Electoral District #2 Representative, Hon. Samson Wiah, requesting the Minister to provide a comprehensive plan for the bridge’s reconstruction. Rep. Wiah emphasized in his communication that the Buchanan (Grand Bassa County) to Greenville (Sinoe County) road corridor is a critical inter-county route essential for human development activities, trade, commerce, and healthcare delivery. Given the bridge’s strategic importance, he urged the plenary to summon the Minister to present clear plans for its rehabilitation. Additionally, Representative Wiah called on the Minister of Public Works to provide updates on the ongoing pavement, reconstruction, or rehabilitation of road corridors from Grand Bassa County through River Cess, Sinoe, and Grand Kru to Maryland County. The Minister is expected to appear Tuesday, 4th February. The House of Representatives said it remains committed to ensuring the effective implementation of infrastructure projects that enhance connectivity and economic growth in Liberia.
