Police Target Overloaded, Unlicensed Drivers

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has warned motorists operating in Bong, Nimba and Lofa counties against overloading vehicles, and operating without valid driver’s licenses.
LNP Regional Commander for traffic in the three counties, Jacob Aaron Vesselee, spoke of the preparedness of authorities enforce traffic regulations that would promote safer road use, and reduce preventable road crashes.
Vesselee said vehicle overloading remains one of serious road safety concerns for the police.
He warned that carrying passengers, or goods beyond a vehicle’s capacity can affect the vehicle’s stability, and braking ability, potentially increasing the risk of crashes.
He urged drivers to take the safety of passengers, and other road users seriously by respecting established traffic regulations, and ensuring that their vehicles are operated within approved limits.
Vasselee also expressed concern over motorists, who drive without valid driver’s licenses.
He stressed the importance of obtaining a driver’s license, which is an important requirement for anyone operating a motor vehicle, “because it demonstrates that the driver has met the necessary requirements, and is legally authorized to use the road.”
Vesselee: “Motorists who disregard traffic regulations should expect enforcement actions from traffic officers.”
He warned that drivers found overloading their vehicles, or operating without the required documentation will face penalties under applicable traffic laws.
