I know exactly what it means.
Historically, I know what it means.
Experience-wise, I know what it means.
From time to time, I know what it means.
I’m a living witness; I know what it means.
I’ve tasted it before; I know what it means.
I know what it means to be very poor.
I know what it means to sit on a cold floor.
I know what it means to be utterly hungry.
I know what it means to be bitterly angry.
I know what it means to be made to drag.
I know what it means to be reduced to a rag.
I know what it means when fools take power.
I know what it means to endure the bitter hours of war.
I know what it means to be trapped in a dark world.
I know what it means to live at another man’s mercy.
I know what it means to suffer from joblessness.
I know what it means to be denied opportunity.
I know what it means to wait patiently.
I know what it means to be given no attention.
Yet through it all, I continue to stand.
Through trials and hardships, I still expand.
Though life has tested me in every way,
I keep moving forward day by day.
For I know what it means to struggle and survive,
And I know what it means to keep hope alive.
