Orange Secures Connectivity
The entity says it secured the powers through the ACE Cable Transition.
The move, according to a statement, is an effort to put an end to internet disruption across the country.
Orange Liberia in collaboration with the Cable Consortium of Liberia (CCL) and Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) with support from the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA) secured its own fiber cable.
The aim is to ensure that Liberia remains connected to the rest of the world.
In a related development, on Friday, May 2, 2025, Orange celebrated a major milestone at its Icon 16—the successful completion of the ACE cable fiber rerouting project.
With resilience, teamwork and unwavering commitment, Orange Liberia ensured uninterrupted connectivity for all customers in the country throughout the process.
“Thank you to our teams, partners and customers for trusting us to deliver on our promise, the statement said.
It added: “Together, we’re building a more connected Liberia.”
Orange Liberia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jean Marius Yao, made the disclosure over the weekend in Monrovia,.
Yao said during the recent Africa Coast to Europe (ACE) cable rerouting by LTA and the CCL, Orange Liberia promised uninterrupted services.
“We are proud to announced that we have delivered on said promise,” the release quoted Mr. Yao.
“We want to commend Orange Liberia for thinking far ahead of the other by putting an end to the country’s internet disruption by ensuring that Liberia is no longer cutoff from the rest of the world,” Yao said.
He said the initiative which cost the company millions of united states dollars came about in 2022, when the country experienced a major fiber cut that went on for almost a week; something that led to Liberia being completely cutoff from the rest of the world, “because the country was relying on one cable at the time.”
“With support from Orange Marine’s Pierre de Fermat, we kept individuals and businesses connected across the country. Your trust drives our commitment to reliable connectivity. Mission accomplished, orange Liberia, ensured uninterrupted connectivity during the ACE cable transition,” he said.
According to him, they engaged the LTA for full authorization to carry on the connection to Orange cable in the Ivory Coast, before meeting various stakeholders in the sector to implement the task.
Accordingly, the internet outage that Liberia experienced brought the country to a serious stand still; something which had serious security implication both on the economic and government as well.
“It was at that point that Orange Liberia thought it wise that instead of the country relying on one cable, knowing fully well that technology sometimes can fail, it was through that means that Orange invested hugely to have an alternative to that effect. We are proud to inform you that that initiative was very successful,” Yao said.
The company then engaged the LTA to have its authorization wherein they deployed a cable from Monrovia to the Ivory Coast border so as to get connected to Orange cable in that country.
He said, Orange got connected to the Ivorian cable to serve as a second backbone to that of the ice cable which is currently supplying the country.
Meanwhile, Orange is currently relying on its own cable that is providing uninterrupted internet connectivity in the country, and they are also in the position of extending their service to other GSM companies in ensuring that Liberia remain connected to the rest of the world.
