The National Housing Authority (NHA) has unveiled a new Housing Investment Portal to simplify housing investment process.
The exercise is to also address concerns confronting Liberians in the diaspora seeking to invest in real estate sector.
NHA Managing Director Florence K. Geegbae, made the disclosure at a press briefing in Monrovia on Tuesday, October 6.
Madam Geegbae said, the initiative is to tackle land disputes, limited access to reliable information and complicated permitting procedures.
The portal will serve as a single online platform where potential investors can access land verification services, permit checklists, cost calculators, and a directory of licensed professionals involved in housing development.
Madam Geegbae said, the initiative followed discussions during a recent diaspora conference in the United States, where participants identified mistrust surrounding land transactions, and limited understanding of property development procedures as major barriers to investment.
NHA, Madam Geegbae said, has developed an estate development roadmap to guide investors through the housing process, from land acquisition, and development approvals to the issuance of occupancy permits.
She disclosed how the authority has negotiated, and acquired approximately 578 acres of land, including privately acquired properties, and parcels provided by the government in the counties.
Madam Geegbae also announced plans to develop housing projects for identified “off-takers,” including civil servants.
She said 3,340 civil servants have already enrolled, provided information on their salaries and preferred housing arrangements, including cash purchases, mortgages and rent-to-own options.
