The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County, has sentenced Sayo Kamara to 25 years for killing Stephen Dahn.
Kamara’s sentenced was announced following a unanimous guilty verdict a 15-member jury presented to the judge.
Resident Judge Joe S. Barkon, handed down the sentenced on July 21, when he ruled that knowingly, and intentionally, Kamara participated in the deadly attack that resulted in Dahn’s death in 2024.
The court’s decision brings an end to a high-profile criminal case that sparked public concern over mob violence, and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands.
Before imposing the sentence, Judge Barkon denied the defense team’s motion for a new trial, ordered a pre-sentence investigation, reviewed the report submitted on July 17, 2026, and subsequently sentenced Kamara to 25 years.
In the court records, the incident occurred on May 31, 2024, between Suakoko Central High School, and Baptist High School.
Police officers, who responded to the scene, discovered Stephen Dahn severely injured, and lying in a pool of blood, with multiple wounds, including a broken right arm, and deep injuries to his head, and body.
A 15-member coroner’s jury later determined that Dahn died as a result of injuries sustained during a violent beating, leading investigators to launch a full-scale criminal probe.
During the trial, prosecutors presented Kamara’s voluntary statement, eyewitness accounts, the coroner’s report, photographic evidence, and other exhibits to prove his involvement in the crime.
Court records revealed that Kamara admitted investigators that he, co-accused Edwin George, commonly known as “Pato,” and another unidentified individual, pursued Dahn after an allegation involving a motorcycle.
Kamara further stated that they caught Dahn near the Baptist School Junction, and assaulted him with sticks, before other motorcyclists joined the attack.
The prosecution argued that Kamara’s actions contributed directly to Dahn’s death, a position accepted by the jury, and the court.
Although Kamara has been sentenced, Edwin George, and several unidentified suspects had remained charged in connection with the case.
The court credited Kamara with five months already spent in detention, which will count toward his sentence.
He will serve the remaining of his prison term at the Gbarnga Central Prison Compound, and will undergo counselling, and rehabilitation through the Division of Probation Services before his eventual release.
The Clerk of Court, has been instructed to transmit the judgment to prison authorities for immediate enforcement.
