The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), has handed 40 heads of cattle to Grand Kru County.
The exercise is part of efforts to strengthen livestock farming, increase agricultural production, and contribute to address food insecurity.
The cattle are part of a second shipment of 41 heads of cattle transported to the county.
The handover ceremony was held at the farm of the superintendent, where the cattle are currently being kept.
Sam F. Larmin Jr., acting director and project coordinator of the Public Sector Investment Program said, the livestock intervention is part of government’s investment in the agricultural sector.
Larmin said, the initiative demonstrates government’s commitment to work with farmers, and communities to increase agricultural production.
He also described the livestock initiative as part of efforts to engage with, and support the people of the county through agricultural interventions.
Larmin acknowledged challenges encountered during the first shipment of the cattle.
He disclosed how approximately 30 heads of cattle from the initial batch died.
Larmin said, the livestock initiative is being implemented under MoA’s Public Sector Investment Program, with the objective of engaging farmers, strengthening livestock production, and contributing to efforts to reduce food insecurity.
The County Administrative Officer, Alphonso DN Teah, who received the 43 heads of cattle, expressed appreciation to the government for the intervention.
Teah described the arrival of the 43 heads cattle as an important agricultural support to the county.
