The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have intensified discussions on electricity sector governance reforms.
The reforms aim to attract increased private-sector investment, and strengthen the electricity industry.
The high-level roundtable was held on Monday, October 12 in Monrovia with representatives from the MCC, Ministry of Mines officials, and the Compact Development Team (CDT). The gathering explored practical measures to improve electricity sector governance, institutional capacity, and overall performance.
The engagement forms part of an MCC-CDT mission scheduled for October 12–16, which supported an Options and Readiness Study designed to identify practical reform pathways, and assess Liberia’s preparedness for greater private-sector participation in electricity generation and distribution.
Discussions focused on strengthening institutional frameworks, addressing policy and operational challenges, and creating a more transparent, efficient, and investment-friendly environment for electricity sector development.
Participants also examined the policy priorities, institutional responsibilities, and the major obstacles limiting private investment in the sector.
