The Ministry of Mines and Energy has placed a ban on all mining activities in and around the vicinity of Ben-Ben Town, Todee Statutory District. A release from the ministry said this ban also applies to all prospecting, reconnaissance and exploration activities. “While the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) recognizes privileges and validity of legitimate license holders who will be affected by this temporary measure, public safety, peace and order are more paramount,” the release emphasized. The release continued: “This move is intended to allow the Liberia National Police and the relevant security agencies continue their efforts to restore total calm following a recent incident that resulted in the loss of lives. Accordingly, the Regional Coordinator, Mining Agent and Inspectors assigned within the rural Montserrado area are instructed to comply.”
