The Deputy Minister for Technical Services at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), Daniel O. Sando, has called on the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) to peacefully leave the property belonging to a private citizen as a way of respecting the rule of law. Minister Sando clarified that the Government of Liberia has no interest in the property, calling on those speculating that the current administration is a party to the case to desist, citing that the Government of Liberia has nothing to do with the case. “For the record, the government has no interest in that property. The CDC was over there when they were defeated. It is not a matter whether they are there or not”, Sando expressed, when addressing the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) press briefing on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, in Monrovia. According to him, the intention of any political party is to lead the country, each of them has to respect and regard the court’s decision, saying that flouting the court’s decision, is something that  has the propensity to undermine the peace and stability of the country. He referenced that the Unity Party and Liberty Party were affected by similar decision by the court; however, they were not hesitant to the decision of the court but rather decided to leave the properties once occupied by them. “We encourage our friends in the CDC to take due cognizant of the ruling of the court.  Having press conferences to announce that you wouldn’t move, is being manipulated, and is wrong. When the court rules, we have to abide by it,” Sando stressed, calling on the former ruling party to adhere to court’s decision. Minister Sando said it will be shameful and disgraceful for Sheriffs, when instructed by the court, to remove the party from their current headquarters, adding that as the court has ruled and the owner of the property is requesting their removal, they should do it by themselves instead of waiting for action from authority. It can be recalled during the March term of court, the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court ordered the eviction of the CDC after which a private Liberian citizen won a lawsuit against the property.
